So today was a trip to a lake I've never fished before called Loxley Fishery over in Sheffield. The lake looked great online and looked perfect for a relaxing morning fishing session on my own.
I got to the lake at around 6.15am. Its a lake in nice countryside setting but strangely you have to go through a derelect Industrial Estate. The lake is almost triangular in shape and holds 32 pegs. Lilly pads are present and a dozen sunken islands too. Due to the situation you see many joggers pass by and dog walkers, cyclists etc.
I chose peg 8 for todays session. The weather was dry and quite mild.
Two rules of note were no elasticated methods and no Halibut pellets of any sort. Not sure why....
I cast in at 6.45am and didn't have a knock until 8.20am when I landed a common carp of 2 lb.
Twenty minutes later i caught a tiny, tiny Mirror Carp of 8 oz. Obviously the lake has been restocked recently. Ten minutes later my rod went round sharply. Off the fish went like a speed train in and out of the islands. I played it for ten minutes and then just as it started to tire it snapped me off. Gutted!!!!
It went quiet then until 10.20am when i caught a 2 lb 2 oz Mirror Carp and the next 90 minutes saw me bag another Mirror, Common and Crucian. After this I didnt have another knock...
Very disappointing day but looking around the lake no-one caught... Its been a bad season so far very slow for everyone...
Loxley Fishery is ok and no doubt will look lovely in Summer but it needs a bit of TLC in my opinion. I will go back for another go in a few months time though.
