18th May 2016 - Docklow Pools (Match Lake)

We had travelled up from Leeds to stay at Docklow Pools for 5 days of fishing.
After getting up at 5am and arriving at Docklow at 10am we spent a couple of hours getting checked in and walking around the venue and then at 12 Noon we were ready for match 1 of the week.
We chose to fish the Match Lake. The match was to be from 12 until 6 and after consideration we chose to fish pegs 4 and 5. Me being on peg 4, Dad on peg 5.
I'd taken nearly 50 different baits with me so I planned to get through as much as possible to see if any would be good to use for the rest of the season.
The weather was bizzare. One minute heavy rain, the next Glorius sunshine but the pegs we had chosen had good concrete pegs so were fine. Both pegs were facing one of the islands on the large rectangular shaped lake.
It was a good match for me. I caught a total of 13 fish weighing a combined weight of 35lb 8oz. This would be enough to win the match 4-1. Dad caught 16 fish but his combined weight was only 23lb 1oz.
My biggest fish of the day was a 4lb 3oz Common Carp but this was only half the story. The lake was full of lots of different species and alongside Common Carp I also banked F1 Carp and even 2 Barbel. A species I rarely catch.
Good start to the holiday and a win under my belt. Could the Docklow Trophy be coming to my house?
