Great... a day off work so a chance to fish a lake that's normally matched up on Weekends.
Today I chose to go back to Aston Park and fish The Split Lake.
I arrived at the venue at 6am, got set up and then nipped into the cafe for a full English brekkie. Ahhh this beats work I thought to myself as I supped my tea.
I expected it to be really busy today but most of the lakes including the one I was on were only occupied by a dozen or so people.
I'd chosen to fish peg 13 which was right next to the car park.
The weather was overcast and the sun of the last few days had sadly disappeared. Today was a day where I was trying all my new baits so it was more of a practice session than anything else.
I was on my own today and in no rush so Id planned to fish about 7 or 8 hours.
The morning started fantastic. Between 7am and Noon I caught 3 Mirror Carp, 1 Common Carp and 3 Bream. Virtually every bait I put on a hook either got me a fish or at the very least a bite.
Between Noon and home-time though I tried out the bigger baits. Various boiles etc were tried but sadly the lake had died. No one on the lake seemed to do much after lunch either so I wasnt the only one. I did catch another Mirror, a large bream and a nice Ide though so it wasn't a total disaster. By the time I packed up I'd caught a total of 9 fish for 23 lb 2 oz. Not fantastic but wasnt too bad considering that lots and lots of carp and Bream were spawning in the margins. Every angler knows its difficult to catch when a lake is in spawning so I was fairly happy with my days work.
Again like many other places I would like to fish the lake in the height of summer to see a big weight caught.
