7th May 2016 - Woodlands Lakes (Silver Birch Lake)

Time to get up.... 4am
Got up and packed the car whilst listening to Amir Khan get knocked out on the radio. Good start to the day I thought to myself.
Shorts were on and ready for a fishing trip in the sun for the first time this season. It was a session on my own today so no pressure of a match against my Dad.
I was headed for Woodlands Lakes in Thirsk again. This time my chosen lake was to be Silver Birch. This used to be a speci pond back in the day and I'd personally seen huge carp cruising around a few times when walking round the venue so I was confident of a productive day.
I got to Woodlands and chose my peg on the Silver Birch lake. A lot of the pegs were in need of serious repair and it was quite boggy around the lake. The peg I chose was a huge wooden platform probably built for the disabled.
I had my first cast at 6.30am and two hours later I caught the first fish. It was a 4 lb 8 oz carp hooked on a strawberry hard pellet. 90 minutes later I'd caught a small Mirror Carp of 2 lb 8 oz on a squid hard pellet.
It was now 10am and the lake was packed with fishermen and families. The sun had just come out and whilst the lads fished, the few lasses and children basked in the sun. Was this England or Ibiza??
Most people were not catching and that included myself. I could see the big fish cruising round again just below the surface which was very annoying !!!
The next 4 and a half hours saw me only catch another three fish. A skimmer and two more small carp for a total of 12 lb 12 oz in the 8 hours. Very poor to be honest and severly sun burnt my ankles, shins and face!!
Ah well, still enjoyed myself.
I will go back and fish the lake in the future though just to give it another crack at catching those big carp.
