10th April 2016 - Norwood Fisheries - (Large Lake)

I woke up at 4.45am with a banging headache. Surely it cant have been the two cans of Taurus fruit cider from Aldi I had last night? Then again I have been called "2 Pint Dave" before so it was a possibility I suppose.
Anyway, I packed the car and after de-icing it I set off.
Over night frost could ruin today I thought...
It only seemed two minutes since I was watching Anthony Joshua being crowned Heavyweight champion I thought to myself as I headed off down the M1 for my second "match" of the season against my Dad.
Today's session was at Norwood fisheries in Killamarsh, Sheffield. I'd never been before and couldn't find a lot of info online either so it was a risk but being 5-0 up from last time I was fairly confident.
I got to the meeting point just off the M1 at the agreed time of 6am. Dad was late, he arrived at 6.20.
The mind games have begun I thought....... We went the 3 miles or so from the meeting point to Norwood and after a short drive through an industrial estate on one of the worst pot-holed roads Id ever seen we were there. We parked up.
The venue had 2 lakes. A small lake directly infront of the car park and the large lake just next to it. We headed down to the large lake and the first couple of pegs were 28 and 27. We had been advised pegs 28,26,1,17 were ok so Dad picked 26. I didnt fancy peg 28 (the corner peg) so chose 27 instead. Both pegs had an island infront. The lake has two islands and the banking is short cropped grass. Very looked after. Mist was coming up from the water and a sprinkling of frost was present on each of the well kept wooden pegs.
There was a cafe on site, but was closed. Not sure on opening times. Maybe it was open only for club/open matches...
After setting up we cast in. The time was 7-10am.
2 Hours later neither of us had seen even a bite. Dad decided to set the pole up and try and snare a few skimmers (sensing it could well be a very low scoring day). He caught two roach. One about 6 oz and one 8 oz and then reverted back to the feeder.
Id been on the feeder from the start and it was now 3 hours in and I still hadn't seen the rod even twitch.
This was Grimm and even though the weather was sunny the wind had started to pick up a little.
Almost 5 hours since my first cast finally my rod bent round and I landed a little common carp. 2 lb 4 oz. Could this one little fish win the match for me?
Two hours later and despite me having one big bite neither of us had caught anymore and the win was mine.
Who'd have thought a little carp just over 2 lb would win the day..
Dad finished with 2 roach totaling 14 oz and I had just the 2 lb 4 oz common carp
David 4 points, Dad 1 point.
I will come back to Norwood but only in summer when its mid season. Its unfair to judge the place on one visit, especially as its early April.
The only reservation/issue I have about Norwood is that there were quite a few young lads in the early twenties supping beer, shouting, using nets with no handles etc. It reminded me of weekend fishing at Non Go Bye Farm. Not the relaxation fishing days out should be in my opinion but each to their own I suppose. Positives include the place is well kept, picturesque and the owner is friendly and helpful
It was a poor session today but a win is a win and I now take a 9-1 lead into next weeks match
