20th March 2017 - Forest Lane Fishery - (The Don Lake)

Match number 2 of the new season and after the pathetic season opening defeat I had to win today.
Todays match was at Forest Lane Fishery in Alne, a venue I hadn't visited before.
The weather was sunny but terrible winds. Almost gale force at times.
After having a quick sandwich in the on site Cafe we chose the pegs. Peg 34 for me, 35 for Dad. The pegs were close to the car so not much walking which was good. The match was to last 5 hours 45 minutes and that would be a struggle in this wind...
Dad caught only four fish all day for a total of 13 lb. I did better though. I managed nine fish which included Common Carp, F1 Carp, Ide and a Brown Goldfish. My total 23 lb 2 oz and with me picking up the other two points on offer it meant a 5-0 victory for me.
Today saw me revert back to last seasons gear of the cheap £50 Frenzee 10ft rod and large 6000 Shimano reel (Thus going against what the experts say about heavy reels no good on short rods)
I'm beginning to think the six new reels I purchased back in Winter may not get much use. Especially if I keep winning using todays gear
