So after two defeats since clinching the League Title this was one I wanted to win. I could'nt lose three on the bounce surely? Then again, my experimentation with new baits was to carry on today.
Today I was going to try a few boilies and also a cooked sausage left over from last nights tea.
I got to the venue, which was Oakmere Fishery at 6:45am and it was pitch black. Dad arrived late at around 7 just as light was breaking. We unpacked the cars and walked to the Carp lake which was to be today's match lake. We chose two pegs near where we fished back in July but at the other end of the lake. Dad was setting up to be solely on the pole today with me on .... yep you've guessed it, the trusty method feeder approach.
Last nights caramalised onion sausage was my first choice of bait and it was only 5 minutes after entering the water did it provide my first fish of the day.
The first three hours were nip and tuck with both Myself and Dad catching steadily. My catches were a little bigger than Dads though so I had my nose in front at the half way stage, although it was very close in terms of overall weight and number of fish.
The second half of the match saw me pull away quite comfortably. Dads peg had died and he couldn't even get back on the silvers, I was still catching every other cast and by the final whistle I'd managed a very good (for October) total of 43 lb with Dad back on 31 lb.
I'd caught 27 fish (all carp) which shows just how small the Carp actually average in this lake.
A 5-0 win for me gives me a lead of 27 points heading into the season finale next week. :-)
