16th October 2016 - Oakmere Lakes - (Gold Fish Lake)

Well here it was: the season Finale and a trip back to Oakmere to fish the Goldfish Pond.
After meeting at 7am in the Car Park we walked to the pegs we had chosen the previous week.
The weather forcast was for heavy rain but not until 10am so we set up but had brollys at the ready.
This season finale was match number 23 of the season and today we expected lots of catches but mainly small carp of around 2 lb but after being told that bigger Carp were present in this lake we were hoping for some good fish.
The first two hours were unbelievable for me. 34 lb in my net and surely on course for a 5-0 win.
I had landed two big Carp of 5 lb 11 oz and 6 lb 11 oz and Dad was back on 8 lb and struggling.
The next two hours belonged to Dad and the Rain came... In a crazy thirty minute spell he banked over 20 lb and by the time we got to Noon he had built a healthy lead of around 10 lb and also netted the biggest fish, beating my best catch by a solitary ounce.
The last two hours saw Dad catch some small stuff whilst i banked a Goldfish, a couple of Bream and with one minute remaining a nice Common to finish about 7 lb behind Dad.

I had 50 lb 8 oz with Dad finishing with 57 lb 7 oz.
I had 16 fish to Dad's 18
Dads 6 lb 12 oz Common winning the biggest fish

So 5-0 to Dad and well deserved and what a match. Who would have thought we would have a combined weight of over 100 lb in Mid October
So the season is over and although I won the league by a commanding 22 points it was only 3 matches that I'd own more than Dad. It goes to show how important it is to pick up the odd point in defeat too.
So there it is 2016 season finished and a league and cup double for me but today belongs to Dad with a great win.
